RECREATIONAL LEAGUE

Playoffs and Trophies

The 2014 fall recreational playoff tournament will be held on November 7-9.

Teams that finish in 1st place in each division of each age group, U9 and older, will be awarded a divisional trophy.  If a 1st place team goes on to finish as champions or runners-up in the season-ending playoffs, the team will receive the playoff trophy, but not the divisional trophy.  Teams may be awarded only one trophy per season.

PYSA holds season-ending playoffs for age groups U9 to U19. The number of teams involved, and the selection of those teams is dependent upon the size of the league and the divisional break downs.   The competition is a single-elimination tournament, seeded based on results from the regular season and the divisional alignment for each particular age group.

Playoff pairings are established using the traditional top-seed v. bottom-seed format.  In the fall season, PYSA may alter pairings to facilitate Tournament of Champions determination.  Playoffs are the key (but not sole) determiner of the PYSA ToC representative.

For the fall 2014 season, playoff brackets will include:

U9G - Top 4 U9G teams from the U9/U10G league
U9B - Top 4 teams
U10G - Top 4 U10G teams from the U9/U10G league
U10B - Top 4 teams
U12G - Top 4 teams from each division (8 teams)
U12B - Top 3 teams from A & B, and top 2 from C (8 teams)
U14G - Top 8 teams
U14B - Top 4 teams from each division (8 teams)
U16G - Top 4 teams from each division (8 teams)
U16B - Top 4 teams from each division (8 teams)
U19G - Top 6 teams
U19B - Top 4 teams from A, top 2 from B & C divisions (8 teams)

2014 Fall Playoff Schedules Posted
Oct 10 2014

The 2014 fall playoff schedule has been posted.

This season, the PYSA recreational playoffs will be played over a single weekend, November 7-9, in more of a tournament-style of play.  The competition will remain a single-elimination tournament, and will be played in a span of 3 days.  Changing to this format will give teams a more authentic tournament experience and allows PYSA more flexibility in scheduling and field use.

The playoff tournament will be held at three facilities (Cheyenne Park, Carpenter Park, and Russell Creek Park).  The U9 and U10 championship finals will be on Saturday, and finals for the remaining age groups will be on Sunday, in typical tournament fashion.
